The document below is one of my favorite things I have put together over the last few years. Its about the paradoxes of the faith. We all have heard of the paradoxes of scripture, There’s a ton of them. Here are a few samples,
- The first shall be last
- To be great be humble, not the conquerers
- To be smart, become a fool for Christ
- The more we give, the more we receive
This idea is prevalent in the New Testament. So much so that it might be hard to list and categorize all of them. The Beatitudes are sopping wet with them. Jesus was such a contradiction himself — the greatest man who ever lived had virtually no human title, no human possessions, no human success. He was killed for the truth. He was, in human terms, a failure. Yet in his Father’s eyes, he was everything.
I would encourage you to consider the list below and find success in repentance, find freedom in submission, find greatness in washing the feet of others. Recognize your blindness so you can see, declare your poverty so you can be rich.
These are things no one can do for you, and our world, and even the Church and her people largely deny them.
Become nothing!
Oh, did I mention it hurts a bit? It will, but God says it’s worth it. So that’s the path less taken.
