UPCOMING Study / Sat, Sept 27, 2025 / 9-10:30am

Bible study at 9am tomorrow, Saturday September 27 / at McNallys. Consider reading Psalm 34 and/or Matthew 5:1-11 (Luke 6:20-36).

We will discuss one or the other of these, or if you have something to share about either or please do! Last time we were going to meet everyone was out of town. We will discuss future options (meeting or not, passages or topics to study) too.

Past Studies

One last week on Romans 8:1-17

Discussion Quetions

  1. This passage is discussing the freedom found in Christ (Rom 8:2, Rom 8:15). What does that freedom look like?
  2. What does “walking in the spirit” mean according to this passage? These verbs that indicate this are in the “present” tense, indicating a continuous action, not a one time event.
  3. What do we learn from the “if” section of this passage? (Romans 8:9-11)
  4. What is the purpose of suffering according to this passage (Romans 8:17-25).

We are working through Romans 8:1-11 / we will be continuing our study and discussion of Life in the Spirit. The documents from the last session are below under July 26, 2025. They might be helpful.

We are going to take some time at the beginning to read the passage and let it sink in a bit before we discuss it. Here is a document that helps us see the context of the passage as it fits into the book of Romans.

Chart of the Logical Flow of Romans 6-8.

July 26, 9-10:30am / Living in the Spirit

We will look at a few of the passages in the New Testament that encourage this different life called Living in the Spirit / one that is contrasted in the scriptures with living in or according to the flesh.

Our focus will be on Romans 8:1-11 / but we will also examine and consider the chart, and the passages, below. Please consider reading this passage prior to our get-together.

May we find a new kind of life! The natural life is so easy to live…

July 5, 2026 / Study Notes…

The Humanness of Jesus Expressed in the Book of Hebrews

To prep for the next study, download and prep with the following pdf (see below).

Here are some discussion questions to consider as well…

  • Reread the Apostles Creed / What does it say about Jesus’ human nature? Why does it state it that way?
  • In what ways to we tend to “deny” the humanness of Christ when we think about who he is? Are their ways we forget truth in this area?
  • Is understanding the humanness of Christ a necessary doctrine? Why? Why not?
  • What aspect of Jesus’ humanness leaves the most questions for you?
  • What kind of comfort did God intend in giving us a “fully human” savior?
  • What can we learn about personal obedience from Christ?

June 21, 2025 / Study Notes

Our focus was the biblical concept of the Son of Man. We began with a discussion on “why study the Bible” and then worked into this concept of the Son of Man, starting with Daniel 7:13-14. Below is a couple of helps for further study.

It might be good to use the verses in the dark photo below to research OT / NT allusions and quotations of Daniel 7:13-14 for further study.

June 7, 2025

Our focus was on a comparison study of Psalm 1 and Psalm 2. The point was these are two pictures of Christ (as Wisdom, as Lord) and we should seek his wisdom and serve him as Lord. I would encourage participants to look at each psalm first from (1) an emotional level of observation, (2) from a structural standpoint, and then (3) from a theological perspective.

Take this survey!
