Why Bother With A Survey of the New Testament?

There are no verses in the Bible. Ok, there are a lot of verses. But none of them were intended to be put into small soundbites. Soundbites are as dangerous to our understanding of the Bible as are soundbites in the news.

Not one bit of scripture was ever intended to be understood outside of the context of the book that a smaller portion resides in, nor outside of the greater context of the scriptures. Our understanding of the Bible as a whole unit is necessary.

A few weeks ago we held an Old Testament Survey workshop. On July 16 we will be hosting a New Testament Survey workshop.

At Bible school this class was a semester long. It was tedious, and it was interesting. I have distilled this workshop down to the place where you will get a good overview of the events of the New Testament, its population of people, it’s themes, its books (and how they fit together), and it’s focus — Jesus.

So, here is my plea, if you have not experienced a survey of the New Testament, come tomorrow night. If you can’t make it then, host it at your church, if you cannot do that, come this fall when we put it on again!
