Jesus in the Book of Revelation

How is the person of Jesus Christ presented in the book of Revelation?

Rick L. McNally / 2025

At the bottom of this page you will find a list of how Jesus Was Presented in the Book of Revelation. After that list you will find a link to a pdf version of this list as well as a list of the verses referenced. Great for self study! Here are some of my initial thoughts on these things. I’d like to hear yours!

Revelation is the apocalyptic book at the end of the New Testament, which expresses in nebulous terms the end of the World. There are many different views of this book and its purpose, I believe it to be an encouragement to Christians to understand the thoughts of Jesus on the church (Revelation 2-3), the war at the end of time, and the final state of reality.

How is Jesus presented? Is it consistent with the New Testament gospels, the New Testament Epistles, and even the Old Testament portrayal of Messiah? Such are things to consider. I would make a few observations.

  • There are many Messianic titles referred to here / Son of Man, Root of David, Word of God, Husband of the Bride, Light, Sharer of the Throne etc.
  • Jesus is Exalted / He is far and above given center stage at the end of the world. Harkens back to the idea expressed in Philippians 2 of Jesus being worshipped by every knee bowed.
  • His work on the Cross is Mentioned through Titles Multiple Times / Firstborn from the dead, Living One, Lamb Looking as Though it was Slain, The Lamb
  • He is Seen as a very complex personality, existing at all different ends of the spectrum, in almost contradictory terms / Beginning and End, Alpha and Omega, Dead and Alive, Lion and Lamb, the Living One who holds the Keys to Death and Hades.

We don’t know or understand the Lord very well, even those of us who have been studying scripture for years, he is much more complex than we can understand. There is always more to see and more to learn. The Word of God is a banquet from which we have only begun to dine, and our understanding of who Jesus is as presented there is nearly inexhaustible. We definitely see through a glass darkly, even though the information in Scripture is right and true and (to our limited intelligence) comprehensive.

Idea / Take an hour and look at this list, compare the scriptures that speak to it and find Jesus to be more than you thought before, even if you believed him to be your absolute Lord previously. You will find a pdf of both the list below and a verse list you can use to make this task a bit less difficult.

I would encourage you to keep learning, and keep seeking the Person of Jesus, as he is the Bright morning star that longs to dawn in our hearts, especially in these dark, dark days.

Hope you day is bright and brightened by Jesus.
